The Sunday Post: Time

I wish I had more time. I was asked recently what Super Hero power I would want if I could have one, and I said the ability to stop time…I can always use a little bit more time. Time always seems to be the villain that I am up against.
Why is it that when you want something to last forever, time flies; and when you want time to go by quickly, it drags on longer than a Mariah Carey movie?
I have done lots of posts about making the most of your time, and time management, and getting in everything in the little time you have available. I like being able to organize my life and knowing that I am getting the most “bang for my buck” so to say. I have often talked about my affinity for to do lists, and daily schedules…I seriously can’t live my life without them. Basically, I have put a lot of time into making more time.
What if that’s not the approach I should be going for, though?

Think about it, I am using time to figure out ways to save time. As the new year began, I made a commitment to myself that I wanted to spend more time with my family and enjoying the things that make life interesting and exciting. That’s hard to do, however, when you are always worrying about having enough time to do everything else. The ten minutes I spend making another to do list could easily be spent reading to my DDs, or playing Barbie, or spending time with my DW. My actions aren’t lining up with my intentions.
How can I make changes so that my actions and intentions are in harmony with each other?
Automatically, I want to make some lists about it…figure out a schedule, write down the times I have to use. The reality though, is that I need to step away from all of that. The less time I spend figuring out how to spend my time, the more time I have to spend. I know, that’s a mouthful…let me rephrase. If I take less time worrying about how and when to do everything, I will have more time to do stuff.
Sounds easy, right?
Surely, it does. However, the change isn’t in an action I am doing. The change needs to happen within me, and those are always some of the hardest changes to make. I am happy to report, though, that as I wrap up my Winter Break week, I haven’t taken out my to do list once. I haven’t tried to figure out when to get stuff done, I haven’t stressed out about finishing a project. Consequently, I have spent more time with my family, more time doing things I enjoy, and more time feeling a whole lot less stressed out.
So what does all this mean to you?
Basically, I want to tell you to enjoy life! The laundry that is waiting there today, will still be there tomorrow…and it won’t be the end of the world if it doesn’t get done. I know stuff like that is hard to accept, but trust me, when you do, life becomes a whole lot more “easy breezy.”

[...] Yesterday, I wrote a pretty interesting post over at the Polka Dot Plum blog.  While I won’t give it away, it was about time…and not really the type of post I usually write about time.  You can check it out HERE. [...]
